General Questions

Can I use Start:Review or Start:Collect on multiple projects?

Absolutely. Start:Review and Start:Collect installations can be used on any project by your discovery team. There is no limit to the amount of data, number of projects, or size of production export.

Why does Premium cost more than Standard?

All Premium versions of our products include Optical Character Recognition (OCR) capabilities. This function is important because it permits our software to “read” scanned or handwritten documents for you. With Start:Collect, this means we OCR as Collect is sorting through your data. If you don’t use OCR, you will have to manually review each document that Collect was unable to analyze. This includes typed documents that were scanned and hand-written images. For Start:Review, OCR allows you to utilize our patent-pending search engine on documents requiring OCR. Again, this saves you time and money from having to manually review and annotate what those documents mean. Some may scoff at the extra cost, but we only charge you for the licensing of the OCR engine, which is one of the most accurate and powerful in the industry.

Both Start:Collect and Start:Review utilize a cutting-edge OCR engine, powered by Nuance Communications. We have successfully OCRed everything from 1000-page PDF documents to scanned images of fifty-year-old mining contracts.

Start:Review

What file types does Review support?

Currently, the analysis engine can process PST, MBOX, EML, EMLX, MSG, PDF, RTF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX, HTML, HTM, CSV, and TXT files. Review Premium additionally supports JPG, JPEG, PNG, TIF, and TIFF files. We continuously add file types to the engine, so check back for updates.

What’s the difference between Standard and Premium versions of Review?

Review Premium comes with OCR support, meaning that any documents imported into a project will be automatically OCRed. This allows the analysis engine to analyze and generate concepts and equivalencies for files that otherwise would not be readable. While Review Standard allows you to mark text for redaction, only Review Premium will perform redaction on export.

How long does an import take?

An import in Review can take anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours. This time may be longer or shorter, however, as it depends on the volume and type of data being imported. If the data being imported needs to be OCRed and is being imported in Review Premium, this process will take longer. We’re frequently making improvements to the speed of Review, so check back for updates.

What is the analysis engine?

The analysis engine is Agile’s patent-pending, proprietary processing algorithm. It uses natural language processing techniques to build a lexicon using the concepts and contexts behind your project. From this lexicon, phrases and ideas are generated to categorize data items. Some of these will be familiar to you, while others might be ideas embedded in the text of emails, documents, and scanned images you didn’t even realize were there!

As you review documents and mark them relevant, non-relevant, privileged, or with a custom tag, the analysis engine processes these markings and distributes them to related concepts and data items. So, each item you mark is actually marking dozens of other equivalent items and concepts! This engine is also used to help you find text to redact based on your previous redactions.

Does document production cost extra?

There is no extra cost for converting, labeling, or other production tasks. Everything is included in your monthly installation cost. Start:Review enables you to export and produce documents of any type in their native format or in PDF format. Export everything or export documents by marking. You can also automatically Bates stamp your final document production! Review Premium even allows you to redact exported documents.

Start:Collect

What file types does Collect support?

Currently, Collect Standard can read and collect PST, MSG, PDF, RTF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX, HTML, HTM, CSV, TXT, and ZIP files. Collect Premium additionally supports JPG, JPEG, PNG, TIF, and TIFF files. We continuously add file types to the engine, so check back for updates.

What’s the difference between Standard and Premium versions of Collect?

Collect Premium can search and collect all file types that Collect Standard can, but it also includes an OCR engine. This engine allows it to OCR and collect image file types and PDFs that would otherwise be unsearchable.

How long does collection take?

The time for a collection in Collect can vary greatly depending on the volume and type of data. Typical collections can be a few hours to a few days. If the data being imported needs to be OCRed, Collect Premium’s collection process will take even longer. We’re frequently making improvements to the speed of Collect, so check back for updates.
